We conducted prospective surveillance of invasive infection caused by group A Streptococcus at a single center in Melbourne, Australia. Antibiotics are a common culprit in pediatric adverse drug reactions, which result in potentially avoidable visits to an emergency department or urgent care clinic because of unnecessary prescribing. Since , vancomycin has been recommended for empiric treatment for suspected pneumococcal meningitis.
